The Mash: 16 May
It’s finally time for the first Versus brewday! After months of planning, of talking about recipes and tweaking ideas, we’re mashing in two 20HL batches of Baltic Porter, a collision of Hells Lager and Cutthroat Porter turned into a monster. As a lager it’s going to get six weeks in tank and will be ready for the end of June.
To celebrate the day, we’ve got Odell beers in the fridge: their awesome IPA, Myrcenary Double IPA, their seasonal hoppy Red Ale and the chocolate milk stout Lugene. And we’ve also got one keg of Friek, a sour ale aged with cherries in wooden barrels and then with raspberries added. We’ve also finally taken the last of the King Crimson out of the wine barrels and this will be on the bar beside Friek in a big Sour-Off – you don’t want to miss those beers side-by-side as you’ll never see them together again. The brewers will all be around during the day (and evening, no doubt…) to answer any beer questions you might have or to talk about the brew.
We’ve got food from 2pm on Friday with Dogfather Diner slinging some special dogs just for us, plus later in the afternoon BAO are in for some fantastic Taiwanese buns and fried chicken.
Food for Saturday will be Gurmetti with their wonderful Italian sandwiches.
You can now find Camden Town beer in a few more venues around London including Fifteen, Bistrot Bruno Loubret, The Eagle in Shepherd’s Bush, The George in Belsize Park. Plus you can now get the beer on tap in the new Byron on Beak Street – they’ve got five draft lines alongside the excellent craft beer list to go with their hamburgers.
If anyone’s reading this in Australia then Jasper is in Brisbane and Melbourne and he’s got beer with him - there’s more details here.
Right, come and get some King Crimson – there’s only three kegs left in the whole world!
